Climate Variability Indices—A Guided Tour

چکیده
The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive review and characterization selected climate variability indices. While we discuss many major mechanisms, focus on four principal modes related the dynamics Earth’s oceans their interactions with atmosphere: El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), North Atlantic (NAO), Pacific Decadal (PDO), Multi-decadal (AMO). All these oscillation are broad interest considerable relevance, also in impact studies teleconnections, i.e., relationships between variations at distant locations. We try decipher temporal patterns present time series different ocean–atmosphere system using exploratory analysis raw data, structure, properties, as well illustrating quasi-periodic behavior via wavelet analysis. With contribution, hope help researchers identifying selecting data sources indices that match needs.
